YLS members gathered recently at the home of Brian and Brinn Doyle to share the holiday spirit through food, music and a “Cousin Eddie” gag-gift exchange. But throughout the evening, the talk centered on their upcoming signature fundraiser — The Eve.
Now in its third year, the annual New Year’s Eve party will once again be held at The Courtyard Marriott in Oxford Dec. 31 beginning at 9 p.m. All funds raised from the event will go toward the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
“We are aware that the first few years of a child’s life determines his or her capacity to learn and adapt in society. And we also know that reading is the cornerstone for that development,” said YLS President Anna-Marie Moorer. “We are proud to support the Imagination Library because it promotes reading on a very personal level.”
Indeed it does. Every child in Calhoun County who is signed up for the program receives a free book each month up until age 5, no matter the family’s income — a worthy endeavor, but also a costly one, which is why fundraising is a top priority.
Moorer and The Eve’s planning committee, Jessica McCauley, Alyson Mims, Amie Hinton, Alyson Tucker and Katherine Davidson are working around the clock to insure this year’s event is a smashing success.
“The party will be in the hotel lobby as well as out in the courtyard with lots of food, dancing and mingling,” said Moorer.
Music will be provided by the Birmingham band Z and the Party Faktory, and the $50 per person ticket price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, party favors and a Champagne toast at midnight. A “bottomless” souvenir beer mug is available for $5 extra and a “bottomless” wine glass for $10. With all that bottomless imbibing taking place, guests are invited to use the code YLS to grab an overnight room at the Courtyard for $79 plus tax.
Sponsors for The Eve include Alabama Power, AOD Federal Credit Union, Webb Concrete and Building Materials and Stringfellow Hospital, as well as ERA King Realty and Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Avoid disappointment and buy your ticket right away because last year’s party sold out. Tickets can be purchased at F&M Bank in Anniston or Oxford, the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way office, the Quintard Mall office or online at theevecalhoun.com
