Prep basketball roundup: Sacred Heart beats Weaver in OT

Sacred Heart lost a double-digit lead in the second half but survived in overtime to beat Weaver 92-87 in boys basketball Monday night.

Playing at Miller Gym at McClellan, Sacred Heart led by as much as 14 points late in the third quarter before Weaver rallied to earn an 80-80 tie at the end of regulation.

Quindarius Williams led Sacred Heart with 39 points, including 19 in the first half. He also pulled down eight rebounds.

Diante Wood managed 28 points and 10 rebounds, and D.J. Heath added 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists.

For Weaver, Chris English had 21 points, and Shon’D McKinney had 18.

Sacred Heart (15-5) will play Thursday at Faith Christian.

White Plains 78, Pleasant Valley 40: White Plains led 49-19 at halftime, then cruised to the road win.

Sophomore Eli Hightower led White Plains with 16 points, including 11 in the second quarter. Jarod Guthrie pitched in 15 points, with 11 coming in the first half.

Murphy Doss scored 12 points for White Plains (10-9), which will host Saks today.

Pleasant Valley’s Trey Phillips had a team-high 16 points, making 9 of 10 foul shots.

Ranburne 70, Ohatchee 46: At Ohatchee, Kyle Lovvorn scored 13 points to lead the Bulldogs past Ohatchee.

Ranburne got nine points from Mark David Smith and eight each from Brayden Wilson, Dylan Wiggins and Owen Smith. The Bulldogs led 23-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Ohatchee’s Dillon Parker scored a game-high 26 points.

Girls

Oneonta 59, Oxford 41:
Casmine Copeland scored 16 points for Oxford (9-9), which fell to the defending Class 4A state champions.

Winter Taylor added 13 points.

For Oneonta, Samford signee Destiney Elliott had 24 points, and Abby Blackwood pitched in 14.

Oxford will face Pell City at home today in a Class 6A, Area 9 game.

Ranburne 49, Ohatchee 30: Indiana Morgan had 11 points and four steals for Ranburne, while Alyssa Smith yanked down a team-high 12 rebounds.

Lacey Smith pitched in 10 points, and Jesse Ralston and Hannah Phillips each had eight for the Bulldogs, who led 28-8 at halftime.

For Ohatchee, Morgan Lee scored 21 points.

Ranburne (12-6, 5-1 Class 2A, Area 10) will host Randolph County today.

Pleasant Valley 56, White Plains 46: Pleasant Valley pulled off the win as Atleigh Brannan scored 24 points. Tiffany Williams pitched in 17.

Also, Bailey Turner pulled down 15 rebounds.

Amber Greenwood scored 17 points for White Plains, and Taylor Snellgrove contributed 12.

Pleasant Valley will host Ohatchee today.

Weaver 38, Sacred Heart 33: Emily Reed had 10 points as Weaver picked up its third win of the season.

Keara Scott and Rayne Beck each added eight points for Weaver (3-12), which will play at Wellborn on Thursday.

Zainab Sanusi paced Sacred Heart with 18 points.

Wellborn 35, Donoho 22: Dymond Myles had 15 points for Wellborn, while Carlee Mullinax added 12.

For Donoho, Amanda Sherer scored six points. Kirin Heathcock pitched in five.

Woodland 78, Opelika 56: Leah Strain led a balanced scoring output with 22 points, and sophomore center Adre Bowen added 19 as Woodland, the top-ranked team in Class 2A, improved to 18-1.

Shanna Strain added 12 points, and Shalyn Strain and Jaide Walker scored 10 points apiece.

Woodland will play at Spring Garden today.
