Prep basketball roundup: Alexandria knocks off rival Jacksonville

In a Tuesday afternoon game played during school hours, host Alexandria’s boys basketball team impressed fellow students in attendance with a 66-61 win over Jacksonville.

Dakota Kelley had 20 points to pace Alexandria, which built its lead to 51-41 by the end of the third quarter. C.J. Swink added 15 points, and Xerxes Stanford pitched in 12.

For Jacksonville, Cam Horton scored 27 points, and Lavontae LaCount added 16.

Faith Christian 55, Jacksonville Christian 47: Josiah McDaniel’s 16 points led Faith Christian to a victory over Jacksonville Christian. The win improved the Lions’ record to 6-10, including 2-5 in Class 1A, Area 12.

Faith Christian’s London Huie finished just shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Lions will play again Thursday at home against Sacred Heart.

Jacksonville Christian’s Alex Jones led with 22 points. Tyler Morales added eight points.

Pleasant Valley 62, Ohatchee 52: Trey Phillips and Lucas Ford each managed 19 points as they led Pleasant Valley to a victory.

Phillips added six rebounds. Dustin Andrews managed eight points and eight rebounds.

The Raiders will return to action Friday at Faith Academy.

Dillon Parker led Ohatchee in scoring with 24 points.

Randolph County 50, Ranburne 49: Randolph County held on to win a tight game after being plagued by missed free throws down the stretch. A shot at the buzzer that would have given Ranburne the game rolled out of the rim.

The Tigers’ Elijah McFarland managed a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. J.R. Roundtree added nine points.

Randolph County (6-7) will play again Thursday in the Randolph County Tournament against Wadley

Kyle Lovvorn led Ranburne with 10 points.


Faith Christian 48, Jacksonville Christian 44:
Faith Christian improved its record to 8-8, including 5-2 in Class 1A, Area 12 with a win over Jacksonville Christian.

The Lady Lions trailed by as many as 16 in the third quarter. They trailed 39-29 entering the final quarter. They used a 19-5 run to secure the lead in the final minute.

Madison Stevens led the Lady Lions in scoring with17 points. Jasmyne Gross managed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds

Faith Christian will return to action Thursday at home against Sacred Hart.

Joeley Cupp led the Thunder in scoring with 20 points. Rachel Russaw led with 13 rebounds. Elizabeth Morales added 12 rebounds.

The Thunder (9-7, 2-3) will play again Saturday in the Calhoun County Tournament against Ohatchee.

Woodland 66, Spring Garden 56: Leah Strain’s 29 points helped Woodland improve its record to 19-1 with a win over Spring Garden.

Jaide Walker managed 14 points, and Shanna Strain added 13 of her own.

The Lady Bobcats will play Thursday at Wadley as part of the Randolph County Tournament. They play Randolph County in the opener.

Spring Garden was led in scoring by Tykeah Rogers with 16, Haley Motes and Madison Sides with 14 and Auburn Kirk with 10.
