Alabama snatched a recruit from under the nose of its chief rival.

Auburn High linebacker Rashaan Evans announced this morning he will sign a National Letter of Intent with the Crimson Tide.

Evans, who is 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds, is the son of Alan Evans, a former Auburn running back.

"I had to pick the best decision for me," he said during a press conference at Auburn High that was broadcast on ESPNU. "With that being said ... I will be attending the University of Alabama."

He is a five-star recruit, according to 247Composite rankings, and was rated the 15th best prospect in the country.

Evans was the subject of a late recruiting battle between Alabama, Auburn and UCLA.
