Calhoun County deputies Wednesday were investigating a series of livestock deaths in Ohatchee that occurred during the past week.

According to deputies, several goats were killed between Saturday and Tuesday at a home on Kirkseys Bend Road.

Sheriff Larry Amerson said the goats all died from gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

According to Amerson, the owner of the goats told deputies she heard gunshots Tuesday. The victim also called the Sheriff's Office three times in the past two weeks after goats were killed on her property.

The investigation is ongoing, Amerson said. There were no suspects as of Wednesday afternoon.

Amerson said another victim on Kirkseys Bend Road reported that 10 sheep were killed during the same time as the goat deaths. But Amerson said deputies took the sheep to a veterinarian, who determined that the animals were killed by either a dog or a coyote.

Any suspects could face a felony charge of killing or disabling livestock, according to a police report.
