May 28, 1984, in The Star: Yesterday afternoon staff, parents and administrators connected with Constantine Elementary School gathered to sing the praises of its retiring principal, Naomi Grier. "She was some kind of principal. Anytime you have kids lining up to get to school early you know something's right," said Ralph Bradford, parent and school PTA member. A former teacher, Mrs. Grier took over Constantine in 1979 and since then the school has shown measurable improvement in its physical and academic standards and tone of operation. Also this date: Elsewhere on the departure beat, the voice of Mike Stedham is no longer part of the morning routine in Anniston-area households tuned to WDNG-AM. The 30-year-old news director, employed as a journalist at Tom Potts' station since the mid-'70s, is pursuing English graduate studies at Jacksonville State University. Stedham's last day at "the happiest sound in town" was May 24.
