Actually, I did back out of a car sale once.  Back then the doc fee was $75.00.  When he added that to the closing price, I said thanks, but no.  I got up and walked out.  The salesman caught me before I got to the car and said he would work something out so I didn’t have to pay it. 

I declined.

another way to make money. I am pretty sure it is for the paper work the dealer has to do. What maybe two or three hours I am guessing, at most. And they usually won’t tell you that until you have made the deal and then slip that in on the contract. But it is perfectly legal I think as long as you have not signed a contract with a lesser amount and then they change it.

I think documentation fees are just another way for dealers to into your pocket.  I believe the charge is for filling out all the paperwork that goes with buying a car.

Does anyone know what has happen to Crown Kia in Anniston. I know they were under investigation and haven’t heard anything else about it (or if it was in the paper I overlooked it) I do know that they are history now. I’ve tried several times to call the number given and there is no answer. My parents bought a car from them and when I looked at the papers (after the sale) it seemed to be a shady deal. I wrote to the main company in Gadsden with no help at all. On the sale agreement there is a $399.00 documentary fee. Does anyone know what this is?
