Dec. 5, 1934, in The Star: An advertisement created by The Star to tout the industriousness of its carriers shines the spotlight on Clifford Moran, 1729 Lorraine Ave., a young man who's carried the paper for three years. His route, serving 90 homes in the Glenwood Terrace-Highland Avenue territory, is one of 56 maintained by Star carriers. Also this date: A brief editorial today heaps scorn upon those who would use the word "invite" as a noun. The usage appeared on the sports page of newspapers elsewhere in the state. "Neither sports slang nor the exigencies of headline writing justifies such a flagrant barbarism." Additionally: In a separate editorial, much longer than the one just cited, the writer urges all local shoppers to confine their money and their choices to what Anniston merchants have to offer, rather than going out of town. "The Anniston men or women who are able to 'shop elsewhere' should not feel that they are lending credit to themselves by so doing. In fact, if they purchase a coat or suit of clothes in an adjacent city they have more cause for being ashamed of themselves for the disloyalty they have shown to their city."

Dec. 5, 1984, in The Star: Construction of a 40,000-square-foot speculative building for industrial purposes should begin within the next two months now that Forward Calhoun County has agreed to split its $400,000 cost with the Economic Development Council. The building will go up on seven acres donated to FCC from Lee Brass, owner of the 105 acres that will become Greenbrier Industrial Park.
