WEDNESDAY’S LIST ... of beans ‘n’ greens ‘n’ other things: YOU PEOPLE did a fine job of pancake eating a week or so back at the Kiwanis Cub’s annual Pancake Day held at the Anniston Meeting Center.

A note from Bill Hagler tells me they “served about 3,000 people with over 9,000 pancakes, 6,000 sausage patties and gallons and gallons of coffee.”

The proceeds will be used when the Kiwanians take 100 or more needy children on a back-to-school shopping spree.

“It’s almost a cultural event,” says Bill, “where old friends meet and the good part is Kiwanis will return to the community thousands and thousands of dollars spent on youth of the area to see they have proper clothing and supplies for school this fall.”

Our community is better for the Kiwanians, as well as the other civic clubs in town.

YOU MAY not want to hear this, but burning rubbish in Calhoun County without permission is illegal, according to STATE law ... and I quote:

“The open burning of rubbish shall be permitted only under sharply controlled circumstances where sanitary landfill or landfill is not feasible and not in proximity sanitary landfill or landfill operations where spread of ire to these operations maybe a hazard ...”

The fine is $50-200, but more to the point are hundreds of people, especially in close housing, who suffer from respiratory problems.

That means trouble breathing and smoke from burning can be deadly for such people.

Think about it the next time you light up ...

IF YOU have a problem with your cable and call Cable One, you’re blessed if you “draw” Dianne Williams on the phone.

Most times, your problem will be solved, but even if it’s beyond Dianne’s reach, you’ll still leave the phone feeling good ... and that’s a talent worth gold to any business.

I’M TOLD that “real mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens, and happy kids.”

TOP TEEN: Meet Tyler Cunningham, a senior at Jacksonville High School where his core GPA of 94.86 has nailed down two things at graduation this spring ... an Honors Diploma and the Salutatorian going away speech.

Young Mr. Cunningham is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (honors math) and the Key Club.

With the academics, comes a healthy helping of athletic ability, too. He was a member and MVP of the All-County soccer team as a sophomore, repeated All-County honors as a junior and has already been tendered a soccer scholarship to Itawamba College in Mississippi.

“Tyler is a fantastic young man with a contagious smile,” says Marcia Stallings, senior counselor. “He has a great sense of humor and such a positive outlook on life. Tyler does such a wonderful job of balancing his responsibilities with his love of life.”

Proud parents are David and Brenda Cunningham of Jacksonville.

Take a bow, young man ...
