My daughter and I found out about a really interesting program a few months ago. It is the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Military Mentoring program. It is for kids who are ages 9-14 yrs and who have to deal with the issues that only military kids have to deal with (deployments, loss of a parent, medical or mental health problems from war, moving a lot, making new friends, etc.). This program is ONLY for military children, and it is not to be confused with the program for at-risk youth! To find out more, please contact the Anniston Big Brothers, Big Sisters office, or check out this link http://www.bbbs.org/site/c.9iILI3NGKhK6F/b.5961595/k.BE7F/Military_Mentoring.htm.

Sorry it has been so long!

I am so sorry that I have not been doing a regular blog entry since May. We have been overwhelmed with family activities and events that have kept me busy.

My daughter just got back from a 5 day summer camp at Camp Corral (www.campcorral.org) in Dahlonega, GA. She had a blast! Camp Corral is a summer camp (FREE!!!) for children of wounded and fallen soldiers. She finally got to meet other kids just like her.

I am going to be starting a Wounded Warrior Wives group pretty soon, as soon as I get all my training and paperwork done. This group will be a special group for wives of disabled Vets and soldiers (mental or physical disabilities). I don't have a set meeting spot yet, but it will either be in Oxford or Munford. Each woman joining will be required to go through a detailed application for membership, which is FREE, to join Wounded Warrior Wives. WWW is a non-profit that is geared towards helping the wives of these wounded warriors. There is also the Wounded Warrior Project, which is for the soldiers and Vets.

Our Girl Scout Troop will be starting their new school year in August. New meeting date and time will begin.

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

We had a special Father’s Day presentation last Sunday – honoring the dads of the church. We are very proud of our dads and each one received a special gift from the church. This past Sunday morning, we were blessed by Bro. Newman Voss ministering to us again. He spoke on bringing the Kingdom of the Lord down to earth. We are to rule and reign in Christ. Jesus modeled what we are to be on the earth. We are to walk in total victory and submit to His Lordship. Our assignment is to “Go” but our destiny is to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth.

Our VBS was great this past week! Cornerstones performed “Change My Heart”. Bro. Doug’s message was from Mark: Jesus healed the man whose friends brought him to Jesus. He was healed both spiritually and physically. The friends who brought the man who suffered from palsy, worked together to get their friend to Jesus. People need to work in unity to get things done. Everybody should do what needs doing. Faith can help heal. We need people to come to church to hear God’s word. Be careful what you reason in your heart, for God sees your heart. Prayer requests: Doug and Cleo, Ruth and Murvel, Charles and Annette, Reba, Edna Dunn, Myrtice, Betty Sisk, Walter and Elaine Hall, Martha Holley, George Nimon, Ray and Esther, jail ministry, lost and unconcerned, VBS, missionaries, Kerry Smith, unspoken requests, William Perryman, Joyce Norris, Sonny Martin and family, the Crowe and Robinson families, our military, our nation’s leaders and our church, and Terry Benefield.

THE LIGHTER SIDE Top Five Things You’ll Never Hear a Dad Say 1. Well, how ‘bout that?... I’m lost! Looks like we’ll have to stop and ask for directions. 2. Here’s a credit card and the keys to my new car -- GO CRAZY! 3. Your Mother and I are going away for the weekend ... you might want to consider throwing a party. 4. Well, I don’t know what’s wrong with your car. Probably one of those doo-hickey thingies -- you know -- that makes it run or something. Just have it towed to a mechanic and pay whatever he ask. 5. Whaddya wanna go and get a job for? I make plenty of money for you to spend.

We pray that each Father had a great Father’s Day and that you keep our Heavenly Father first in your lives each day! We had a great Brotherhood breakfast with a large number of men. We were also pleased to hold a baby dedication service for Oakley Nash Freeman. He is the handsome son of Will and Heather Freeman. Rev. Robinson turned to Psalms 128:1-6, “The Commander, Duck”. God has always required us to lead our families in Godly ways. A real commander has to have a faithful walk and be the center of his faith. Most of all, he must fear the Lord and trust not in material needs but have proper circles. Most important is the need to hear the Lord when He speaks. A real commander has a fruitful work. When you do, God will bless your finances, your future, and your family. You have to make God your center and act as He instructs. Your family life is like a vine that when nourished will grow and put forth fruit. A real commander has a family that worships. To begin, the dad is saved! He has to get serious and have his relationship right with God. He must be spiritual and lead his children in prayer and to church always. Men- You need to lead them to the Lord! Don’t wait on someone else to do it but you do it.
