“And trust me, this does not look pretty at 3 a.m.,” he joked.
But no matter how early Stevens has to get up to do his half of the Steve and Julie Show on 97.9 WVOK in Oxford, he’s willing to do it.
“All I’ve ever wanted to do was radio,” he said.
Stevens started working in the radio business at the age of 14 in Georgia. For the past 10 years, he’s been the voice that listeners of 97.9 wake up to during the week.
Without a doubt, Stevens says his favorite part of his job is the audience.
“Instead of listeners, we have family,” he said. “Even though we may never have met the people, they feel like they know us, and we want to get to know them.”
Stevens said the listeners mean a great deal to him personally as well.
“I’m the one that is very blessed,” he said. “They’ve seen me through a lot. Every day is like a dream come true, honestly.”
Stevens is realistic about the show and what he can accomplish with it, but that doesn’t make him any less dedicated to his job.
“I’ve always said that our show will never be one to cure cancer,” he said. “But, hopefully, it will be one to help someone who is suffering from it feel better.”
