MONTGOMERY (AP) — The Alabama National Guard is getting ready for hurricane season.

Guard members will hold a training session this weekend in Montgomery to prepare for responding to tropical weather.

The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and doesn't end until Nov. 30. The session will be held Saturday at Guard headquarters.

Maj. Gen. Perry G. Smith says the Guard is proud of the work it did last year while responding to spring tornado disasters, but troops have to get ready for the next challenge.

More than 3,900 members of the Alabama Guard were called to duty after the April 27 tornadoes last year. Members helped with traffic control, search and rescue work, food and water distribution, security, power generation and aviation support.
