TUSCALOOSA -- Once time expired, cameras caught Alabama coach Nick Saban leap into quarterback AJ McCarron’s arms following the Crimson Tide’s 38-17 thumping of LSU.

Saban and McCarron have had a father-son relationship throughout McCarron’s time at Alabama.

“AJ and I have been through a lot,” Saban said during his postgame news conference. “Some of it you’ve seen on TV, some of it you haven’t. He’s done a great job for us. There’s nobody that I’ve ever had the opportunity to coach that’s more into the game and a better competitor. … I thought he did a great job of showing a lot of leadership out there, especially in the second half to get our offense going. We needed for our offense to control the tempo of this game. We did it in the second half and that was really the difference in the game.”

When a reporter informed McCarron of Saban’s high praise, the quarterback’s tone slightly changed as he appeared to relive some of the moments he and Saban have shared throughout the years.

“It’s an honor. It means a lot to me. I didn’t know he said that,” McCarron said. “I really love coach. I tried to buy into the system as much as possible. I try to be the best leader for this team and put the team first. So it means a lot.”

McCarron completed 14 of 20 passes for 179 yards and three scores.
