Alexandria High grad wins all-conference softball honors for JSU

Jacksonville State sophomore Sara Borders made the All-Ohio Valley Conference softball first team Tuesday night.

An outfielder and first baseman from Alexandria, Borders was a second-team selection last year as a freshman. In addition, JSU freshman Ella Denes made the OVC's all-newcomer team.

Borders batted .377 this year, including .435 in league play. She ranks second in the league in walks (32), third in home runs (11), fourth in on-base percentage and slugging percentage (.677). After going hitless in her first first four games this seaosn, she has hit safely in 38 of 47 games since then.

Jacksonville State will play today in the OVC tournament at host Eastern Illinois. The sixth-seeded Gamecocks will open against third-seeded Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
