Police are investigating the fatalities of an elderly Anniston couple, after on Sunday finding the man and woman in their home, shot in their heads.

Geneva Bridges, 73, was pronounced dead sometime after 2 p.m. Sunday, when Anniston officers responded to a house in the 600 block of West 13th Street, Sgt. Josh Doggrell said.

Eighty-three year old Annise Zimmerman, identified by police as Bridges’ boyfriend, was taken to Regional Medical Center but died there at 8:13 this morning.

Doggrell classified the fatalities as “death investigations” but said it’s likely that one of them shot the other before committing suicide.

“It’s leaning that way,” Doggrell said.

He said police couldn’t tell for certain who was shot first. It will take months for the police to confirm what exactly happened through forensic analyses and full autopsy reports, the sergeant said. But investigators are not looking for any outside suspects.

Family members called police to the house when they could not get in touch with Bridges or Zimmerman.

Officers had not been called out to any prior domestic disturbances at the house where Bridges and Zimmerman lived, the Doggrell said.
