Anniston police are searching for a suspect who allegedly stole items from a vehicle in a Walmart parking lot Tuesday evening.

Sgt. Chris Sparks said the 31-year-old female victim was backing out of a parking space at the store on McClellan Boulevard at 7:52 p.m. when she saw a shopping cart rolling towards her vehicle. Sparks said the victim stopped her car and got out to move the cart.

“A female suspect approached her, grabbed some property out of her car and fled on foot,” Sparks said.

A police report states the suspect stole a wallet and a cell phone from the car.

Sparks said the incident appears to have been planned and warned shoppers to be aware of similar situations.

“We’re in the process of obtaining video surveillance,” Sparks said Wednesday morning.
