Anniston police Thursday arrested a man on charges of domestic violence after an alleged altercation with his wife earlier in the week.

Cedric Bernard Johnson, 35, was charged with second-degree domestic violence. Anniston police Capt. Allen George said Johnson kicked in the door at his wife’s home on 5500 block of Cash Street on Wednesday, taking his wife’s phone so she couldn’t call police and pushing her down to the floor. A neighbor tried to intervene and call police, but Johnson had fled before officers arrived, George said.

George said the victim is divorcing Johnson, and the man had moved out of the home on Cash Street. Wednesday’s fight started when Johnson came to the house to pick up some of his property, George said.

Johnson was in the Calhoun County Jail on $10,000 bond this morning. No court date has been set.
