Bonds helps Pleasant Valley to eighth-place finish in Jesse Owens race

OAKVILLE -- Pleasant Valley High’s boys cross country team finished eighth Saturday in the Jesse Owens Classic’s green division, which includes Class 1A and 2A schools.

Matthew Bonds paced Pleasant Valley by finishing third individually in 17 minutes, 37 seconds. Isaiah Rodriguez (19:44) was 39th, and Tyler Peck (20:05) was 48th.

Faith Christian’s Bryce Nygaard was 44th in 19:56, and Thomas Jackson (20:30) was 56th. Faith Christian didn’t field enough runners to place in the team standings. Ohatchee's Jimmy Wilson was 22nd in 19:08, and Jackson Henry was 58th in 20:32, as the team placed 11th.

In the girls green division, Ohatchee’s Abby Nunnelly was fourth in 20:14 as her team finished eighth, while teammate Victoria McRaney was 15th in 21:33. Faith Christian’s Rebecca Harvey was 74th in 26:14. Pleasant Valley’s Juliana Ballew was 38th in 23:24, and Rachel Faucett was 40th in 23:51.

In the boys bronze division, which has Class 4A schools, Jacksonville was 33rd as Brian Pryor (19:56) was 130th, and teammate Will Cole (20:52) was 171st. In the silver boys, Oxford’s Kendall Jenkins was 19th in 17:28, and Pruitt Griffin was 37th in 17:50. The Yellow Jackets finished ninth.

In girls bronze, Jacksonville’s Rebecca Hearn was 53rd in 23:11, and Elizabeth Keefer was 75th in 24:09, as the team was 19th. In the silver girls, Oxford’s Emily Hankins was 33rd in 21:17. Mary Kathy Person was 117th in 23:42, as the Yellow Jackets placed 22nd.
