Cuts threaten Alabama schools' progress
State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton told state board members Thursday that initiatives that have been pushed over the years to improve the quality of education in Alabama have taken the state from the bottom of the heap to being a competitor.
But he cautioned that the state's constant threat of financial disaster remains a challenge that could prevent the quality of Alabama education from going to No. 1.
