Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies arrested a teenager Friday after he admitted that he raped a high-school classmate earlier this month, authorities said today.

According to Matt Wade, chief deputy for the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, the 17-year-old suspect convinced the victim to skip school with him and pressured her into having sex. Wade said that when the suspect was brought to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, he told deputies he raped the victim because “she wasn’t right” and he thought that he could get away with it.

Wade declined to provide the victim’s specific disability, saying it would identify her.

Deputies said today that the victim told her mother about the incident a couple of weeks later.

Wade said 2nd Chance, the Calhoun Cleburne Children’s Center and the Daybreak Rape Crisis Center have all been involved in the case.

The suspect was at the Alabama Department of Youth Services today, Wade said. The suspect faces charges of one count of second-degree rape and a count of second-degree sodomy, both felonies, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.
