Children's Hospital of Alabama has seen about a three-fold increase in the number of concussions diagnosed since new policies on high school athletes and brain injury were adopted last year, doctors at the Birmingham hospital said Tuesday at a panel on the topic.
Private physicians say they've also seen more young people with concussions since the Alabama High School Athletic Association mandated that high school athletes can't return to practice or play until being released by a doctor. That's leading to more frequent diagnosis.
