Firefighters say no one was injured in a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Oxford early Friday morning.

Two people were in the home on Allred Street at the time the blaze began, but they were able to escape and were outside when firefighters arrived at about 1:30 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Ben Stewart.

"When we got on scene basically the mobile home was fully involved on the inside," Stewart said.

He said firefighters do not know what caused the fire, but added that the residents said they heard a loud pop and then saw flames. There was no electricity at the home when it caught fire, he said.

Oxford firefighters responded to the scene with two fire engines and 12 members of the department. According to the assistant chief, they received the call at 1:24 a.m. and were able to put the blaze out in a short amount of time. However, they stayed until 3:36 a.m. to make sure it didn't flare up again, he said.
