Other sports have their followers. I'm a baseball nut. I know people who are fans of the NBA. The NFL always is strong fan-wise. But nothing compares in Alabama or throughout the South like college football.
This week, The Times and Democrat newspaper in Orangeburg, S.C., opined on an interesting convergence -- the power of college football and the importance of newspapers' daily coverage of that sport. The editorial is full of all sorts of statistics that back up their editors' claims. They seem solid, and they surely mimic what we know here at The Star -- that sports fans turn to daily newspapers for reliable, constant and quality coverage of their daily teams.
That's good for us, and good for fans, too.
