Turns out, being a senator or representative from Alabama isn't as lucrative as you'd think. Kind of.

The Hill newspaper, which covers politics in Washington, has published a list of the 30 richest members of Congress. Neither of Alabama's senators, Richard Shelby or Jeff Sessions, or any of its House delegation made the list.

According to The Hill's research, the richest congressman is Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., whose net worth is $355 million. Second is Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, at $101.9 million. The 30th richest member of Congress, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, has a net worth of $12.1 million.

Financially, Alabama's senators can't keep up with that pace. In 2010, the Washington Post estimated that Shelby's net worth was $8.3 million, and that it had dropped significantly since 2004. That same Post report estimated that Sessions' net worth was $6.8 million in 2010.
