It's horrible that the University of Alabama's famed Greek system is segregated in 2013.

It's good, however, that the university is acting quickly this week to begin infusing racial diversity into that key part of the UA campus.

Segregation within UA's Greek system is not a new topic, but a recent story by the university newspaper, The Crimson White, reintroduced it when reporters detailed black students who had been denied an opportunity by white sororities. The Star's editorial board decried that racial segregation earlier this week.

Earlier today, University President Judy Bonner released a video explaining the school's position and the steps it has planned to rectify this problem. Let's hope that Bonner's video comments are the kick-start this process truly needs.
