•July 3: Last day to sign up for the Summer Reading programs at Jacksonville Public Library

•July 4: The library will be closed for Independence Day. It will re-open at 8 a.m. on Friday, July 5.

•July 6: Underground movie at 1 p.m. Beat the heat at the library and enjoy a free showing of a summer blockbuster starring Will Smith on the library’s big screen. Saturday afternoon movies are rated PG-13, and may not be suitable for younger audiences.

•July 9: Pompeii Party for Teens (ages 12 and up) at 4 p.m. Wear your best toga and come with us on an adventure to discover one of the most fascinating archaeological finds from Ancient Rome.

•July 10: The library will present the Children’s Learning Garden at 10 a.m. at the Jacksonville Farmers’ Market Pocket Park. Aliza Yarden-Cummings, manager of the Farmers’ Market, will present a gardening program for children (which will give children hands-on in planting and taking care of a garden) across from the First Presbyterian Church. Children must be accompanied by an adult during this library program.

•July 10: Lunch Munch Movie at noon. Bring your lunch and enjoy the family friendly movie starring Brendan Fraser in an action adventure journey into the earth on the library’s big screen.

•July 11: “Stomp, Stomp, ROAR!” Dinosaur Story Time and Craft at 10 a.m. What child doesn’t love a dinosaur? Children ages 0-5 and 6 and up will enjoy great stories and an age appropriate craft or activity Thursday morning.

•July 11: “Murders & Me” with Dr. Edd Blackwelder at 5:30 p.m. Spend an evening with Dr. Blackwelder, a retired criminal justice professor, who has met or corresponded with many infamous serial killers, including Manson, Bundy and Dahmer.

•July 12: The library will present The Magic of Russell Davis at 2 p.m. This special Friday program gives us Russell Davis’ magical adventure through reading.

•July 13: Underground movie at 1 p.m. Steven Spielberg’s classic dino adventure movie (rated PG-13) comes to the library’s big screen.

•July 16: Back to Eden Gardening for teens and adults at 5 p.m. Aliza Yarden-Cummings will talk about sustainable organic gardening minus the tiller.

•July 17: Lunch munch movie at noon. Bring your lunch and enjoy a free showing of the sequel to the Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt movie about a couple with a dozen children at the library annex.

•July 17: The library board meets at 3:30 p.m. The board meetings are held in the library annex. Changes will be posted on the library bulletin board in advance of a meeting.

•July 18: “Family Roots” Story Time and Craft at 10 a.m. For children ages 0-5 and 6 and up. This, the final story time for the summer reading program, presents stories about all kinds of families.

•July 18: Last day to record books for the library’s reading programs.

•July 20: Dynamite! Closing Party with Dr. Magical Balloons. Don’t miss your chance to see awesome stories full of balloons and magic. Trust us; this is not your usual balloon creations. http://www.drmagicfun.com/ **This program is a special celebration for the children and teens who enrolled in the library’s 2013 summer reading programs and read at least five books. All adults are welcome to attend.
