My wife and I are both Native Americans. People like Anniston City Councilman Ben Little and the NAACP need to know this is the year 2012. Slavery ended more than a hundred years ago.
Native Americans gave up their land and homes and were put in stockades in Centre and Fort Payne. More than 15,000 died, and more than 5,000 died in the stockades. A lot of those people were my ancestors. More than 416,000 were in Vietnam, including my brother and myself. In World War II at the Battle of Saipan, Native Americans’ courage and sacrifice helped win the war in the Pacific. The Navajo Code was never broken by the enemy, saving thousands of lives. Very few, if any, medals were given to them. They came home a proud people. And they didn’t scalp anyone for not receiving any medals.
So Little and people like him should start giving instead of griping about not having this or that.
