A press release from the university said the public is invited to attend the visitation for Maucler Charles, 21, an International House student from Haiti who died Saturday near Cleveland, Tenn., while on a skill-building retreat with other students from the house.
The visitation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday. Father Jim Macy of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Jacksonville will conduct a prayer session at 7:30 p.m., and Charles’ sister, Marie Claire Charles, will be in attendance to represent Charles’ family.
“The JSU family and Charles’ friends are encouraged to attend and show their support to his family during this difficult time,” the release said.
Charles drowned after attempting to canoe across a pond at Horn’s Creek Resort in Polk County, Tenn., on the school-sponsored trip.
A funeral service for Charles will be held in Haiti later this month.
