Oxford police have charged a Talladega man with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Oxford Saturday night.

Cameron Lavorus White, 29, of Dumas Avenue in Talladega, was being held in the Oxford City Jail on bond of $1 million, with no court date set, after he was arrested Sunday by Oxford police, said Lt. L.G. Owens.

Barry Wright, 50, was declared dead due to multiple gunshot wounds. Wright had an Anniston connection, Owens said, but is believed to have been a resident of the 300 block of Alice Street in Oxford, where the shooting took place between 8 and 8:15 p.m.

Oxford EMS took the victim to Regional Medical Center, Owens said.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown said the time of death at RMC as recorded by his office was 11:30 p.m.

Owens said the investigation is ongoing and more information should be available during the week.
