A mother allegedly left her 2-year-old son alone in a car Saturday afternoon, according to Anniston police.

Sgt. Chris Sparks said officers were called to a parking lot on the 1700 block of Quintard Avenue and found the boy in the car by himself. The child was discovered in a 2013 Honda Accord between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a police report stated.

Sparks said the Department of Human Resources was notified and he could not release more details until the investigation is complete due to the “sensitive nature” of the incident.

Sparks said the mother will likely face charges of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
