Dequirea Royal, a 24-year-old Army soldier, was fatally shot in the head Friday afternoon at her apartment in Constantine Homes in Anniston. Investigators have declined to release further information about the case.
“We’re still actively working on it,” said Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell. “We’re doing several things, and there are several things we’ll be doing today. We’re talking to a lot of folks.”
Royal was serving as a sergeant cook for the Alabama National Guard in Oxford at the time of her death. She had served in the Army for seven years and had plans to deploy to Afghanistan in June.
