Mr. and Mrs. Denis O’Dea of Salisbury, Conn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Dathalinn Mary O’Dea, to James Alison King, son of Dr. and Mrs. Franklin King of Jacksonville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Margaret Cunningham of Amenia, N.Y., and the late Lawrence Cunningham; Mary O’Dea of Oughterard, Ireland, and the late Kevin O’Dea.

Ms. O’Dea is a graduate of Honsatonic Valley Regional High School, Falls Village, Conn.; Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., and is a doctoral candidate at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Christine and Frank Allison, formerly of Palestine, Texas, and the late Charlene and Franklin King, formerly Fairlie, Texas.

Mr. King is a graduate of Jacksonville High School; Samford University; the University of Alabama and Boston College. He is the admissions coordinator at North Bennet Street School in Boston, and will enter the doctoral program at the University of Pittsburgh in the fall.

The wedding will be Oct. 6 in Lakeville, Conn.
