Marbut initially started by making an impact on special teams, and now in his senior season, he is flourishing at safety as well.
However, Marbut’s first love was baseball. He’s been playing since he “was allowed to,” he said, and has taken a role for the Golden Eagles in the outfield.
When Marbut isn’t playing or practicing, he likes to work at his dad’s restaurant, Cecil’s Place. He also likes to help out around his grandfather’s house, whether it’s cleaning up or cutting the grass.
After he graduates in the spring, he plans to attend Jacksonville State, majoring in business management and minoring in accounting. But what Marbut said he actually wants to do is “wear a suit to work every day” and “work in an air-conditioned office.”
Recently, Marbut took a few minutes at the beginning of practice to sit down with Anniston Star sports writer Brandon Miller and cover 10 questions:
Question: What made you want to play football?
Answer: Everyone has been telling me I should play since my eighth grade year, and when the new coaches came in, and everyone said things were going to be so much better, I just decided to do it. I’ve liked it. It’s been fun.
Q: Who’s the funniest person on the team?
A: Jackson Bell. He’s a goofball. He acts up all the time and has random, funny comments that he always adds in everywhere.
Q: What’s the best part about gameday?
A: The feeling right when you walk out on the field and you get to run through the banner. You can feel all of the energy outside. It’s just great.
Q: What’s your favorite sport to support at Jacksonville?
A: Volleyball. I go to every game I can. I’m just good friends with a lot of people on the team. And since we’re in the gym, I can yell and no one can pinpoint it on me because it’s bouncing around. I’m hoping we can get state this year.
Q: What has the most impressive team you’ve played this season?
A: Munford. They were just all-around. They were bigger than us, faster than us, well coached and they knew what they were doing. We also didn’t have a good game that night. They outplayed us.
Q: What’s your favorite class in school?
A: Right now it’s my AP calculus class just because I like math. Burt Lavender is the best teacher in the school. He’s just a great guy even at 7 o’clock in the morning.
Q: Every student at Jacksonville now has an iPad. What’s the best part about having one?
A: Games. When you’re done with everything in class, you have games. It also makes notes a lot more organized as well. That’s probably what I should have said, but the first thing that came to mind was games.
Q: Which jersey combination is your favorite?
A: I like it when we’re all blue. Those look nice.
Q: Who is your favorite person to follow on Twitter?
A: I’m not a big social media guy, but a lot of people will retweet inspirational quotes, and I think those are cool. But I don’t go out of my way to follow those accounts to see the tweets every day.
Q: Who’s your biggest role model?
A: My dad, Tyler, or my grandfather, Dean Christopher. My dad has always been there to help me out and my grandfather is the hardest worker I’ve ever known.
