Oxford police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old Anniston man with first-degree robbery following an incident in the Sherwood Forest subdivision Friday.

Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens said Shawn Alexander Wilson Jr., of 1725 Rocky Hollow Rd., Anniston, went to a dwelling in the 5000 block of Red Oak Drive approximately 4:35 p.m. Friday and robbed the resident of her purse at gunpoint. Wilson placed the handgun to the resident’s head and to her daughter’s head before taking the purse, according to police.

Wilson then ran from the area but was pursued by a friend of the victim through the yards of several adjacent homes. It is believed the suspect may have known the friend of the victim, Owens said.

The victim called Oxford police as soon as the suspect fled the area and thanks to officers’ rapid response, Owens said, an arrest was made soon thereafter. The suspect was taken into custody in the 4000 block of Forest Drive approximately 4:50 p.m. by Oxford police and a retired police officer who lives in the area.

The handgun and the victim’s property were recovered.

Wilson, described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 156 lbs., was being held in the Oxford city jail Saturday night on a $100,000 bond. He has a court appearance Sept. 27.
