Anniston police investigators are looking into $2,500 reportedly stolen from a grocery store on Friday.

Anniston Sgt. Josh Doggrell said a an employee of the Food Outlet store at 2120 Noble St. filed the police report for a missing bank bag containing $2,500 in assorted bills. Doggrell said the worker told police the money is missing from a safe and may have changed hands for deposit during a shift change at the store.

Doggrell said investigators can’t say for certain whether the money was stolen by an employee. A police report notes the incident occurred between 10:25 a.m. and 6:19 p.m. Doggrell said based on those times the theft appears not to be a break-in.

The sergeant said police are still investigating the incident and will be looking into employees who have access to the safe.
