A 20-year-old man required stitches Monday after he was assaulted on Lenlock Lane, according to Anniston police.

Police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the victim had been walking on the 1400 block of Lenlock Lane between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The victim told police he was approached by a man he was acquainted with and the two had a brief argument, Sparks said.

During the altercation, the suspect punched the victim multiple times in the face and head, the sergeant said.

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he received stitches and treatment for minor injuries from which he is expected to recover, Sparks said.

The suspect had fled from the scene before police arrived, Sparks said.

The suspect could be charged with second-degree assault, according to a police report.

Sparks said Tuesday morning that the incident was still under investigation.
