A female victim was allegedly strangled by her boyfriend Monday afternoon, Anniston police said.

Lt. Fred Forsythe said the 20-year-old woman was in a vehicle with her boyfriend near the 400 block of South Allen Avenue Monday between 12:15 p.m. and 12:35 p.m. The couple had an argument and the victim told police her boyfriend forced a piece of jewelry off her and strangled her with his hands, Forsythe said.

“She was able to get away and came to the police station to file a report,” Forsythe said.

The lieutenant said the victim was not injured to the extent that she required medical treatment.

Police are still investigating the incident and a suspect is likely to face felony domestic violence and first-degree theft charges, Forsythe said.
