Prep basketball roundup: Donoho boys open with a win

Donoho’s boys basketball team opened its season with a 58-36 win at Jacksonville Christian on Tuesday.

Justin Foster paced the Falcons with 20 points, while Chris Carr added 16. Axis Heathcock had seven.

For Jacksonville Christian, Daylon Brackett and Dakota Crook each had 12 points.

Donoho will play again Thursday at Wadley.

Alexandria 80, Wellborn 50: C.J. Swink had 15 points for homestanding Alexandria, which improved to 2-0.

Dakota Kelley added 13 points, and Ronnie Royal pulled down 10 rebounds.

Alexandria will play at Ohatchee on Thursday.

Devron Taylor had 18 points for Wellborn.

Jacksonville 82, Oneonta 51: Cam Horton had 26 points in Jacksonville's win. Sid Thurmond added 18, and Lavontae LaCount pitched in 15.

The Golden Eagles (3-1) will play Etowah at home Friday.

For Oneonta, Hunter Musso had 12 points.

Randolph County 67, Ranburne 36: Elijah McFarland had 23 points and 12 rebounds to pace Randolph County, while Willis Knight added 15 points and four steals.

Levi Phillips contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for Randolph County (2-1), which will play at home Tuesday against LaFayette.

For Ranburne, Mark David Smith and Dylan Wiggins each had eight points.

Girls

Homewood 56, Oxford 36:
Lexie Higgins paced Oxford (2-3) in a road loss by scoring 12 points.

Hannah Barber’s 16 points led Homewood, which also got 11 apiece from Kelly Young and Alex Studdard.

Jacksonville Christian 69, Donoho 31: Elysabeth Morales produced 21 points and 15 rebounds in JCA's home win.

Sarah Crook added 16 points and eight rebounds. Joeley Cupp and Josey Howell each contributed eight points.

Jacksonville Christian (4-2) will play Faith Christian at home Friday.

Oneonta 56, Jacksonville 40: Angel Kidd had 22 points as Jacksonville fell to the defending Class 4A state champions.

Abby Blackwood led Oneonta with 15 points, and Samford signee Destiney Elliott, last season's 4A girls player of the year, had 12.

Jacksonville (4-3) will play at home Friday against Etowah.

Ranburne 59, Randolph County 13: Indiana Morgan had 12 points and eight rebounds for Ranburne, which also got 12 points and five rebounds from Lacy Smith. Alyssa Smith had 10 points.

Ranburne (1-3) will play Horseshoe Bend at home Monday.
