Jones scored 11 of his 19 points in the first half and was 6-for-8 at the free throw line in the second quarter, helping the Thunder to a 33-19 lead at the halftime break. Dakota Crook had 16 points while Tyler Morales and Walker Messer each scored seven points for the Thunder. Daylon Brackett had 19 of his team’s 45 rebounds and scored six points. Morales and Crook added seven boards apiece.
JCA (6-7) plays at Donoho in a Class 1A, Area 12 game Tuesday.
Weaver 90, Wellborn 70: At Weaver, senior Timothy Hawkins scored 23 points as the Bearcats extended their current winning streak to eight games and improved to 10-2 overall.
Elliott Moore netted 18 points for the winners. Camron Lynch and Shond’ McKinney each recorded 10 points. Brandon Smith, Paul Hubbard and Delo Forbes each scored eight points for Weaver.
Wellborn senior Devron Taylor had 15 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, and ended with a game-best 33 points. Jordan Montgomery had 15 points and Corri Tignor scored 14 points for the Panthers.
Wellborn (4-7) entertains Class 2A, Area 10 foe Ranburne Tuesday. Weaver travels to White Plains for a Class 3A, Area 10 showdown Tuesday.
Donoho 53, Fayetteville 35: At Fayetteville, Chris Carr tallied 12 of his game-best 15 points in the first half to help Donoho to a 32-15 advantage at halftime. The senior added seven rebounds and four steals.
Justin Foster had 13 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for the Falcons. Kevin Carr finished with 10 points and two steals.
Donoho (10-1) hosts Sacred Heart in a Class 1A, Area 12 contest tonight.
Clay Central 66, Beauregard 62: Anthony Wood converted a late steal by DeAndre Wills into the go-ahead layup as the Volunteers won at home over Class 4A, Area 5 opponent Beauregard.
Two free throws by Lamonyn Burney with 16 seconds to play set the final score. JoJo Staples led Clay Central with 17 points. Burney ended with 16 points, Wills 14 and Wood scored 10.
The Vols, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in area play, avenged a loss at Beauregard three weeks ago. Clay Central plays at Munford Monday in a 1 p.m. start.
Munford 57, Cleburne County 50: At Munford, the Tigers led 21-18 at halftime and opened a 10-point lead in the third quarter before Munford’s press began to take its toll.
Max Prichard had five 3-point baskets and totaled 18 points for Cleburne County. Cameron Kerr had seven points in the second quarter, including a trey and a 2-for-2 trip to the free throw line, and ended with 11 points. Christian Henson contributed eight points for the Tigers.
C.J. Chapman was 9-for-11 at the line and scored 17 points for Munford. Cleburne County plays at White Plains this afternoon.
Ranburne 64, Pleasant Valley 37: At Ranburne, Kyle Lovvorn and Dylan Wiggins each nailed a pair of 3-point baskets as the Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in Class 2A, Area 10.
Lovvorn finished with 19 points and Wiggins scored 12. Mark David Smith recorded nine points and six rebounds. Jay Smith had a team-best seven rebounds and eight points. Owen Smith contributed eight points and five steals. Brayden Wilson finished with five rebounds, three assists and three points.
Trey Phillips and Hunter Carr led the Raiders with 14 points and 12 points respectively.
Area 10 action continues Tuesday as Ranburne plays at Wellborn while Pleasant Valley hosts Ohatchee.
Cherokee County 72, Jacksonville 59: At Centre Friday, three players scored in double figures for Jacksonville. Cam Horton led the way with 20 points. Sid Thurmond netted 18 points. Freshman Taye Ackles had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Weaver 35, Wellborn 30: At Weaver, the Bearcats pressed effectively and ran the floor well in transition as they built a 21-12 halftime lead.
Keara Scott had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead Weaver. Mariah Thompson recorded 11 rebounds and seven points. Sequonda Brown had 18 rebounds and four points. Eighth-grader Rayne Beck scored seven points in the first half for the Bearcats but was injured and missed the second half.
Dymond Myles led Wellborn with 11 points. Kierra Evans added six points for the Panthers.
Weaver plays at White Plains Tuesday and Wellborn hosts Ranburne the same day.
Fayetteville 30, Donoho 24: At Fayetteville, the Falcons led 16-9 at halftime but tired in the second half.
Amanda Sherer had a pair of 3-point baskets and ended with 12 points for Donoho. AnnaMarie Woodfin turned a series of steals into layups and scored 10 points.
The Falcons play at home today against Sacred Heart.
Jacksonville Christian 50, Coosa Christian 29: At Jacksonville, nine of JCA’s 10 players in uniform scored as the Thunder improved to 8-5.
Briah Cupp and Josie Howell each scored nine points and Howell grabbed six rebounds for the victors. Sarah Crook added eight points and six boards. Rachel Russaw recorded seven points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Elysabeth Morales contributed six points and seven rebounds.
Jacksonville Christian plays at Donoho Tuesday in a Class 1A, Area 12 contest.
Ranburne 60, Pleasant Valley 55: At Ranburne, Lacey Smith converted two free throws in the final minute to earn the Bulldogs a two-possession lead and Ranburne blanked Pleasant Valley the rest of the way. The Raiders had cut Ranburne’s 49-43 lead after three quarters to 58-55 before Smith’s trip to the charity stripe.
Hali Wilson paced the Bulldogs in scoring with 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Alyssa Smith led on the boards with 12 rebounds and scored seven points. Indiana Morgan and Jessie Ralston scored 12 points apiece for Ranbunre. Morgan had two 3-point baskets and Ralston one. Off the bench, Hannah Phillips had eight points and five rebounds while Kat Runels had eight boards and two points.
Atleigh Brannon led Pleasant Valley with 26 points. She was 4-for-4 at the line in the fourth quarter and 7-for-8 for the game. Tiffany Williams scored 14 points for the Raiders.
Now 3-1 in Class 2A, Area 10 and 9-5 overall, Ranburne travels to Wellborn Tuesday for another area game. Pleasant Valley entertains Ohatchee in an Area 10 game Tuesday.
Jacksonville 70, Cherokee County 58: At Centre Friday, Virgina Poe drilled five 3-point baskets on her way to a game-high 22 points. Poe also had 10 rebounds and five steals as the Golden Eagles improved to 3-0 in Class 4A, Area 11 and 11-4 overall. Dasia Kirksey also had a double-double for the Eagles with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Angel Kidd scored 14 points. Jessen Burk led Cherokee County with 20 points.
