Alabama teachers have not had a cost-of-living raise in several years. Has our governor lost his mind?
Why do we need to spend millions of dollars on preschool when our teachers need to get food stamps on their present salaries?
We are already paying one of the highest tax rates in the country. We are paying an income tax, a 10 percent or higher sales tax, a property tax, not to mention our federal taxes. Where is all that money going? Some states do not have an income tax and a sales tax on food.
It would be my guess that most of the preschool enrollees would come from families on Social Security, unwed mothers and so forth.
By the way, kindergarten is not mandatory.
I sincerely hope the teachers’ raise Gov. Robert Bentley is proposing is a big one, since they have not had one in years.
