The city of Anniston has postponed tonight’s Christmas parade because of rain.

The city will hold the event Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on Noble Street, according to Angie Shockley, program director for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The parade had been scheduled for 6:30 tonight. The National Weather Service forecast for Anniston calls for a 100 percent chance of showers today, with the chance of storms weakening by 4 p.m.

Other holiday events are planned for later in the week. Tuesday the Choccolocco Heritage Society will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting and party at 5:30 p.m. The event will include a performance by the White Plains High School band at the Little White House in Choccolocco. Snacks and hot drinks will be served.

Saturday Noble Street will again be filled with Christmas fare. Horse-drawn carriage rides, an ice carver, Santa Claus, carolers and food will be offered at the Saturday event, which begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

Saturday, Piedmont will host a Christmas festival and parade. The event will include carolers and arts and craft. The day's events will end with the parade, which begins at 5 p.m.
