Re “Special permits request postponed” (News article, July 10):

It was with both amusement and disbelief that I read the article about the Rumble On Noble motorcycle event. According to the article, Jennie Preston says the event brings the wrong kind of people to the downtown area. She evidently doesn’t know many “bikers.”

Bikers range from people with high-paying jobs on down; this includes doctors, lawyers, military and all sorts of lifestyles. Most bikes cost from $12,000 on up into the upper $20,000s. I am retired military and also retired from the Calhoun County Highway Department, so it’s nice to know I’m the wrong type person for downtown Anniston.

It was also noted that the Noble Street Festivals promote foot traffic. The bikes park and the riders walk the distance between 10th and 14th streets. Of course there is more parking along Noble Street for the bikes because bikes are smaller than cars.

I hope the mayor and City Council will reconsider and allow the Rumble On Noble to proceed. I for one will not pay to attend festivities at Zinn Park and then walk back to Noble Street to have a few drinks with friends. Let’s not ruin this event — keep it on Noble Street.
