The Autism Society of Alabama will kick off Autism Awareness month throughout April with a “Walk for Autism” event at the following locations: April 13 at Saks High School; April 20 at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre and April 27 at Lineville City Park. Visit for more information.

Ohatchee High School Key Club’s “Run for the Kids 5K Run/Walk” and the “Beat the Bunny Kids’ Fun Run” will be 8 a.m. Saturday. The run will begin and end at Ohatchee High School. Door prize and snacks will be available after the run. There will be an Easter egg hunt for the kids participating in the Beat the Bunny Fun Run. American Red Cross lifeguard training will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday at YMCA of Calhoun County. The classes are open to anyone 15 years of age or older. The instructor is Brandy Sanders. Registration is open for the Center for Domestic Preparedness Employee Association third annual 5K Walk/Run to be held April 6 at McClellan. The race is open to the public and starts at 8 a.m. Race day check-in will be 6:30-7:30 a.m. The 5K race will start at Noble Training Facility, 490 Care Drive.

The CDP EA will also host a Mini Trot for children age 10 and younger following the 5K awards ceremony. Children are not required to pre-register and there are no registration fees for the Mini Trot. Contact John McKenzie at 256-847-2111 or email for more information.
