The National Weather Service in Calera reported Thursday there is a 50 percent chance of snow for the area Saturday morning.
“We’re still looking at a chance for some light snow showers in the early morning hours lasting through noon,” said Jessica Talley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Some areas could see a half-inch of snow.”
Talley said typically the Weather Service issues winter weather advisory warnings for a quarter-inch of snow or more, but will wait until Friday’s forecast before issuing an advisory.
Either way, the snow is likely to disappear quickly, Talley said, with most of the snow melted before Sunday.
The county saw “trace amounts” of snow in March of 2010, Talley said, but the last time a measured amount happened this late in the year was during the blizzard of 1993 when Anniston got slammed with 13 inches of snow during the worst winter storm recorded in the state.
