Thanks to Robert Smith for spearheading the Hamilton-Ballard Park fence project. It’s a prime example of good citizens of the private sector partnering with government for efficiency, effectiveness and, ultimately, success.

The city of Anniston could only afford $4,900 for a chain-link fence, but the community and park improvement group desired a fence that would be more in keeping with the historical ambience of the park. Robert was able to get a reasonable price from Oxford Lumber, and neighborhood donations made up the difference.

With the team of volunteers, including Ken Knapp, Dawn and Tom Wilczek, John White, John and Becky Hollingsworth, Andy Soleman, Gerry and Anne King, Tommy Pope, Danny Craft, Tubby Bass, Sara Starling, John Morrow, Buddy Eiland, Mike Shook, Ridgely Smith, Wilkes Scarborough and Oren Babb, the fence is now installed and it looks great.

We genuinely appreciate all the great folks who worked diligently on this project, as well as Parks and Recreations Department employees, supervisor Chris Roberts and PARD Director Steven Folks. Together we can and will make a difference for Anniston.
