There have been a few thieves charged with vandalizing and destroying air conditioner units while stealing copper. During the process they release refrigerant to the ozone.

How many have been charged under the Clean Air Act, Section 608? They are liable for a fine of $27,500 for each unit they damage. The Environmental Protection Agency has not publicized one thief charged with this violation. Why not?

They would definitely think twice before cutting the lines to release the pressure and steal the copper. Speak up, EPA. Why not?
