An ex-husband and wife were in the Calhoun County Jail this morning on charges that they stole prescription drugs from her uncle’s Lincoln home in September.

Deputies arrested Matthew Blake Howell, 30, on Sunday, and Cheryl Ann Howell, 28, on Tuesday.

Sheriff Larry Amerson said that the victim told police that the Howells had stolen Lortab – a form of hydrocodone – from him in the past.

The victim told deputies that on Sept. 23, the Howells stole the medication during a visit to his home on the 2000 block of Mudd Street, Amerson said.

Amerson said that when the victim confronted the two suspects, they denied taking the pills and left.

The victim told police Cheryl Ann Howell returned later and tossed the victim’s medicine bottle onto his front yard. The victim told deputies half of the pills were gone, Amerson said.

The victim filed a warrant for their arrest on Sept. 25 and deputies were able to obtain an arrest warrant Oct. 31, Amerson said.

Matthew Blake Howell was arrested at his parents’ home on the 100 block of Amerson Street, the Sheriff said, and Cheryl Ann Howell was arrested at her parents’ home on the 100 block of Hutchinson Drive.

Both suspects were in the Calhoun County Jail today with bond set at $10,000 each. Both are scheduled to appear in court Dec. 5.
