A woman reported being assaulted with a baseball bat early this morning, according to Anniston police.

A 20-year-old woman told police she was involved in an argument with a group of people outside Barber Terrace Apartments on South Allen Avenue, Anniston Sgt. Chris Sparks said.

The argument happened this morning between 12:30 and 1 o’clock, according to a police report.

Sparks said the victim was hit in the right eye with a baseball bat during the dispute. She was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment, the sergeant said, but he did not know the extent of the woman’s injuries.

Sparks said the suspect was not at the scene when police arrived.

A suspect is likely to be charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to the report.

Police were still investigating the incident, Sparks said this morning.
