State sees drop in use of flu shots; H1N1 cases decrease
A year after state officials ordered 2.8 million doses of vaccine that included the H1N1 strain in the wake of a flu outbreak that killed 52 Alabamians, the state has seen a 20 percent decrease in flu-shot usage.
Ordinarily, when there are a large number of cases of a specific flu -- such as H1N1, also known as swine flu -- it is common to see an outbreak again the following year, but the state is seeing very little of it, said Jim McVay, Alabama Department of Public Health spokesman.
