Troy, Alabama native Col. Gwen Bingham will soon be promoted to brigadier general and has become the first female commandant of the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, according to multiple media reports.

Bingham took over as commandant in November during a change of command ceremony and will oversee the training of more than 20,000 military students a year. With the new assignment, she returns to the installation where she started her Army career more than 29 years ago and served as garrison commander from 2005 to 2008, according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch report.
